Overall Satisfaction with Control-M

Control-M is our enterprise orchestration tool for almost two decades now. Within our department, we used it to manage our ETL job flows for the Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Lake, and Operational Data Stores.

Pros

  • The jobs are easy to build.
  • The dependencies between jobs are simple to manage.
  • Job monitoring in Control-M's dashboard is easy to setup and follow.

Cons

  • I went to the web version of the client instead of trying to keep up with the desktop version. The upgrade on the desktop version was confusing and didn't work as expected.
  • Been using Control-M from the beginning, never did a comparison with other orchestration tools at the enterprise level.
2000 - Control-M is the organization's enterprise orchestration tool. It is the backbone of our daily processes.
Can't imagine what it would take if we decided to move away from Control-M.
We would still use Control-M as overall orchestrator to manage the workflows created in these other products. We do not consider them as a replacement for Control-M.

Do you think Control-M delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Control-M's feature set?

Yes

Did Control-M live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Control-M go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Control-M again?

Yes

I would use Control-M to handle workflows instead of individual tasks, because Control-M charges by the number of jobs ordered out daily. Putting ETL processes into workflows or batches on UNIX scripts or Databricks Workflows is probably the best practice to control cost.
