Db2 on cloud
Overall Satisfaction with Db2
Our data and analytics team uses the platform as a relational database to manage, collect and store data. I use to to maintain data coming from multiple data sources, and is used to manage tasks relating to data integrity, data governance and data hygiene. Starting with initial implementation, it was seamless to transition and get up and running across our team.
Pros
- Database querying - using query logic within the platform to build, test and deploy queries, and run multiple jobs and execute tasks is not troublesome and works well with our data systems.
- Manipulating data - Formatting and executing data tasks to integrate with external platforms is one of the core business needs to move data between systems.
- Data modeling - it's been relatively smooth to begin the process of modeling our data to fit the structure of multiple business units which all have different data needs. It is flexible and works well with storing and maintaining multiple data structures.
Cons
- Being able to execute queries of the same data while multiple users are running tasks at the same time can be problematic and cause the system to run slow.
- The support available to troubleshoot system error codes and runtime errors can be an issue and I wished was more readily available.
- It has been costly when we've had to scale up some of our marketing databases and data structure sizing and I would like to see a change to the cost model.
- There is great value the solution brings when it comes to building stored procedures and ongoing tasks that allows our team to streamlines processes.
- The platform has allowed us to see value by providing a solution for data structuring and data hygiene which prevents deduplication of data and lowers costs
- With the integration capabilities it allows our analytics team to more seamlessly create highly visible dashboards that see directly into the data and pinpoint areas that need attention.
Db2 has overall stronger capabilities with data maintenance, governance and task scheduling, however Teradata has a more developed online community with more robust and timely customer support. The support and training capabilities and the user community where you can interact with other users is stronger with Teradata, in my experience over the last few years.
