Overall Satisfaction with Db2

Db2 is the database of choice for all our mainframe applications in our organization. Many mission critical applications are using Db2 database to manage their work. It is a very high performance database. There are excellent tools available to manage the database such as Platinum etc. You can use it us dbeaver or other windows based software client.

  • IT allows us to manage all our Purchase orders with vendors
  • All our corporate integration for Logistics systems is managed via Db2
We have massive workload running in our organization on Db2 Database with massive amount of data and delivery sub-second response time to very mission critical applications. Various Logistics systems integrate with Corporate systems using the Db2 database. Various Accounts payable systems and paying vendors uses Db2 system. It is used in US and also all international countries.
I can't remember when was the last time when my Db2 system failed. Db2 is a very highly available database used by multiple user application with thousands of users running app against Db2 system. Very rarely requires any downtime. Very rarely requires a reboot and continues to function fine with high performance.
Db2 is much more scalable and available then other Databases such as MariaDB, Ingres, Sysbase, Informix etc Oracle is good but comes close to Db2.
Db2 is multi platofrom and when it comes to mainframe there is no other choice then Db2 for the database. Tools available for Db2 are far better then tools available for other databases.

Applications that need massive scalability and very high volume for very fast performance. Applications like
Very good for low latency transactions
It is very highly reliable, scalable and with very high performance.
Database of choice for credit card companies/insurance companies and any kind of financial transactions.
IT is one of the most matured relational database

It is still the database on which many of the mission critical applications such as creating a purchase order reside and run.
Many other corporate apps that integrate various real time systems
db2 in our org is still the database that is run on the on-prem hardware, primarily mainframe because of the amount of scalability and compute power required.

We are still in learning phase for these new capabilities. Our DBA team takes care of keeping the db2 engine humming without any performance impacts to the business user. Our expectation is that these new capabilities, will allow the automatic turning of the performance for the application queries, by deciding when the data in the database has changed and automatically update the statistics for the data, so we don't have queries performance impacted.

db2 works well for our workload for many of our mission critical applications. We get good topline support for the product.
