Overall Satisfaction with Db2

It is a database that is used for storing information with real time analytics and low latency transactions. We use it in many of our projects to store data for better performance as compared to other SQL databases whenever the project requirements are leaned more towards using a SQL database as compared to NoSQL, the Db2 is out go to preference for it.

  • could be better in terms of scaling
  • less migration options
  • could include JSON related indexing like in postgres

The product is good as far as the scalability is concerned, good support for indexing, creating views etc. It can be sharded into different parts for better read and write performance and master-slave replica creation is also there for better reading performance. Overall good as far as the scalability of the database is concerned.
Yes, there have been incidents where the database went down and created issues for the users to access the database but barring a few incidents it works well if good load balancing and sharding is in place according to the needs of the project's user requests. Scaling horizontally or vertically can help in solving this issue as well.
It is faster and the transactions are much more safer and reliable if I compare it with the two SQL database I mentioned above, as far as MongoDB is concerned it completely depends upon the requirement of the project, if a SQL or a NoSQL database is more suitable for a project.

It is well suited when the project requires a SQL database and a database with faster retrieval of data and safer transactions is needed, if the project leans a lot on JSON related fields and it is required for the data be dependant on JSON indexing, I'd say avoid it altogether.
