Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight
It is used as our 2D design software company-wide. We use SOLIDWORKS as our primary design software. However, there are certain applications where 2D software is easier and faster to use. DraftSight filled that need. It was economical when it was free. At that time I recommended the product regularly. However, with the price tag for DraftSight, my colleagues and I do not feel like you get what you pay for as there are key aspects that make it cumbersome.
- Economical (kind of)
- It's close to AutoCAD
- It is stable. I don't recall it crashing.
- Command structure is cumbersome. There are too many clicks to do simple tasks.
- One right-click will not repeat the last command.
- Grips do not behave how one would expect. They are not easy to use. Should default to stretch, and stretch should stretch from the grip point.
- Getting dimension styles to match is an issue. Matchproperties does not work 100% for this.
- Editing annotation can be tricky. We use ROMANS font and cannot get ":" to work. It comes out as ";" unless we copy the text.
- When I move a titleblock from the lower left hand intersection to 0,0 it will move to a point near it. I will draw a line from 0,0 and it will be at a different point.
- Opening drawings and sometimes even a zoom all results in polylines that aren't really there all over the drawing. They dissapear as you regen or zoom, but it is annoying.
- Smart dimension feature does not work like SOLIDWORKS as one would expect.
- Save to PDF is terrible.
- A REALLY STUPID DIALOGUE BOX APPEARS WHEN YOU ARE SELECTING ENTITIES. IT IS ALWAYS GETTING IN THE WAY!!!!!! GET RID OF THE BOX OR HAVE IT POP UP WELL AWAY FROM THE CROSSHAIRS.
- I believe we have lost money due to inefficiencies since we made the switch from AutoCAD.
It is half as efficient to use.
