Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

DraftSight is used as a 2-D drafting solution by individuals at my company. It helps to draw architectural solutions across the whole field of problems in my work. The important challenge it assists with is to get valid, technical, readable plans. With my 3D-software I can’t get this without running into trouble.

Pros

  • The drawing utilities are good to handle/work with and very similar to AutoCAD which was my first drawing solution.
  • I have many old drawings and tools that aren‘t lost and I can bring to life again - even LISP-programs.
  • A big advantage for me is to use my old CTB's to print my plans in nice visual styles.

Cons

  • Some features, like to isolate entities, are hard to use. Maybe I will understand it later.
  • As a missing functionality, I would like to see IBM integration. This would be good for further work with 3D.
  • I had some problems with the stability of the software. Maybe there are better ways to store it on the system.
  • I would guess a 30% positive increase of my overall business objectives because of more possibilities.
DraftSight is limited to important basics, but we were convinced by their better price-performance ratio.
In my opinion, DraftSight is well suited to draw good technical plans.
If you like to have a program with specific architectural tools or to get BIM-integrated drawings, DraftSight is less appropriate.
