Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

We're a job shop and currently use Draftsight Standard to draw 2D drawings of parts we manufacture. We then use those drawings for use on our CNC machines. On occasion, we'll receive CAD files from our customers but they need to be cleaned up and layered prior to use on our CNC machines. We use Drafsight for all of this and currently have 5-6 users.

Pros

  • Simple 2D drafting
  • Similar to the big name CAD programs

Cons

  • Can be relatively slow
  • Cost of ownership is low.
  • Easily pays for itself and in our case, in one job.
We use Draftsight because of it's lower cost and interoperability with other CAD systems. Prior to Draftsight we have used IntelliCAD variants, namely from Autodsys.
Draftsight would best be suited to someone who needed simple 2D drawing that may have already been familiar with AutoCAD. If you rather not pay the high price, Draftsight is a clear winner.
