Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use for nesting plasma burns or editing DXFs produced by SOLIDWORKS. For these 2D applications, it is much quicker to do these tasks in DraftSight than in SOLIDWORKS. The two programs compliment eachother in my opinion.

Cons

The "Welcome" screen always apears on open, and can't be disabled.
Would be helpful to have custom "Save As" defaults depending on what file type is open (eg. DXF or DWG).

Alternatives Considered

SOLIDWORKS and Autodesk Fusion 360

Draftsight is a Solid 2D editor. It does 2D easier than programs made for 3D.

Likelihood to Recommend

[DraftSight] is useful for doing quick 2D layouts, editing old AutoCAD drawings, nesting burns for Plasma tables (or similar), and for editing DXFs where you need something specific done like tabs to hold a burn together (when you don't want these features to show in SOLIDWORKS). In manufacturing, I don't think 2D has a place anymore as a company's main design software, but it can still be helpful as a "sidekick" to your main 3D software.
