Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight

I am the only one in my organization that uses this product. This product is used to do HVAC duct layouts on home floor plans. These layouts are then provided to the installation crew to install. The clean design makes it very easy for the crew to read and install.

Pros

  • Lines and radiuses.
  • Hatching.
  • Creation of and importing of blocks.

Cons

  • Image Tracer is horrible. It does not trace .pdf or .dwf files.
  • There is no way to turn off HomeByMe on login despite the disable function.
  • Minimal cost means there is very short period of time for ROA.
  • Compare to AutoCAD the cost is almost free.
For my use DraftSight and AutoCAD perform as equals. The only real advantage for me is cost. DraftSight cost for a year is less the AutoCAD for a month.

Anywhere basic CAD operations are needed I would recommend. I do not know many of the advanced features so I can not speak to them. However for doing basic drawings of duct systems this is perfect.
