Overall Satisfaction with DraftSight
For the money, you cannot beat DraftSight Professional. It is an excellent 2D graphic package with the versatility of packages costing thousands for a license. I have primarily used DraftSight for architectural and electrical building designs. I have also relied on it to produce small graphic art projects like silk screen designs and vector based logo designs.
- 2D architectural layouts and floorplans.
- Electrical one-line diagrams and equipment notes
- Simple graphic artwork involving wireframe or vector designs.
- Cannot easily handle team sharing and updating.
- Lacks an autosaving feature with version.
- Three dimensional drawings are 3D in a 2D package.
- Great ROI based upon the professional license pricing.
- Simple, easy to learn, easier to use for any building or construction project.
- Not a good product for modeling.
- AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS
I have been able to use DraftSight to completely replace 2D drawing in AutoCAD at a fraction of the price. Although SOLIDWORKS is a much better program for solid modeling, I have found simple drawings and drafting needs to be fully met with DraftSight.
