P21 Good Choice for Small Businesses
Overall Satisfaction with Epicor Prophet 21
Several of our customers use P 21 to run their entire business (accounting, sales, inventory, etc). We are an Oakland based managed services provider (MSP) that supports Prophet 21. We do stuff like set up and maintain SQL server, backups of P 21, assist in user account creation and removal, installation of custom modules, upgrade the version, and support end users with our bay area IT help desk.
Pros
- It is a single system - all in one ERP system
- Clients seem to like it
- It is less expensive than Salesforce
Cons
- It would be nice if they had a SAAS billing model
- It would be better if it was more mobile friendly and worked on an iOS App
- It would be better if it had an updated GUI
- It would be better if Epicor Support was better
Prophet 21 seems to do a great job at managing inventory and bin locations. The accounting modules also work fine for the majority of small businesses.
The web store module works very well and allows our customers to send the small orders online vs. taking up a sales reps time. The webstore, however, is very, very outdated and really is pretty poor in my opinion when you compare it to other online shopping sites. It would be nice if P 21 invested into this to make it better.
- P 21 seems to have a great ROI overall
- Licence costs are below that of other solutions
I am honestly not too sure about the alternatives; I have not looked hard enough. I would take a look into Salesforce though as it is a great product.

No - The sales rep has never done a good job explaining premium support and why we would benefit from it. I think it would be a great thing to buy.
Yes - We reported it, were told it is a known issue and given no real options, timeline, or way of knowing when a bug was resolved.
Ha! This one's a joke right?
