Overall Satisfaction with F5 BIG-IP

We use F5 BIG-IP to Load Balance network traffic in particular. Currently, we are exploring ways to branch out and utilize the product in more ways than we are already at. Some of these things would include utilizing the APM module to provide access management to web applications along with GSLB to load balance DNS queries.

Pros

  • We love how well the F5 BIG-IP balances the traffic we have.
  • F5 BIG-IPP does a great job of providing access to web applications.
  • The GSLB load balancing that F5 BIG-IP offers is incredibly useful for large organizations with multiple High Availability clusters.

Cons

  • We would love to see how F5 BIG-IP could be a little more user friendly.
  • F5 BIG-IP currently does not allow centralized backups although, moving to BIG-IQ should resolve that.
  • We have not had a chance to really utilize our licenses to the max extent so the ROI is negative.
  • The load balancing features help us deliver HA capability without flaw.
I give it this rating because once you know your way around the F5 BIG-IP, you are able to do SO much. From the access policies to DNS Load Balancing, F5 BIG-IP does a great job of delivering on the products they advertise.

Yes

I would recommend F5 BIG-IP due to the versatility that it offers to application delivery. I know that our command could certainly benefit from enhancing the tools we deliver to our customers through access policies as well as WAAF solutions.
