Overall Satisfaction with FirebirdSQL

We use the Firebird open source relational database in a small piece of IT infrastructure designed for a specific task in the workplace where I work. I mean small here is not insignificant. Firebird RDMBS is critical for us, fulfilling an important task of our organization that needs to work 24/7.
  • It's free.
  • Open source.
  • No capacity restrictions (at least up to 950GB).
  • It works with low system resources.
  • It is seamless on many platforms. (Windows-Linux-FreeBSD-HpUX-Solaris-MacOS).
  • Documentation.
  • No GUI tool to view data.
  • Slow via remote access.
  • Free.
  • Easy.
  • It does not require much maintenance.
  • Install, run and forget.
  • The return on investment was of course because it freed us from paid relational databases.
  • We have never experienced a negative situation.
As you know, the version of an application is very good for a period in the world of information technologies, it is the first in the performance / cost table. But some periods come and that practice lags behind. When Firebird made such a breakthrough, we preferred this application and we did not regret it.

Do you think FirebirdSQL delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with FirebirdSQL's feature set?

Yes

Did FirebirdSQL live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of FirebirdSQL go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy FirebirdSQL again?

Yes

The reason we prefer Firebird is that it is fully compatible with the application platform, and it works stably in systems that can be used without licensing from large companies such as MS-SQL and Oracle. It is the software convenience it provides compared to other free versions. If the scenario is less suitable, we are careful not to use it in critical systems such as ERP or customer interaction.
