Overall Satisfaction with GitLab
We built our own GitLab environment on premise several years ago to meet the needs of code development, version control, and change management of code for a small subset of applications we run in-house. We have a small group of users who check in, check out, review code, and make enhancements as necessary. Documentation for such code is also warehoused in GitLab.
Pros
- Version control.
- Code repository.
- Time and date stamping files.
- Documentation repository.
Cons
- Web interface for gitlab could be modernized.
- Software patch management could be more straightforward and easier to do with better logging when issues during updates arise.
- Speed of code change and deployment.
- Staff turn over is easier to transfer roles and responsibilities to new staff due to code repository management.
- Searchability of code easy across teams and the environment.
We have a small custom code development group. We only needed a basic entry-level code management repository. Gitlab meets our needs and is very price advantageous compared to others on the market. We also needed a system that is easy to administer and easy to grant access to our limited-size user base. Gitlab does what we need and gives the necessary flexibility for application support, user administration, and code/version control needs to be required.
We only have the bare basic GitLab on-premise setup. Support is limited and based on our needs what we require. The out-of-box administration, controls, security, and user features are more than sufficient for what we need for our business.
We use GitLab for code repository, sharing, version control, and documentation of code needs. Code validation functionality in GitLab is not used by us. That's a more advanced feature that's beyond our needs and software deployment structure. Everything, as noted above, provides seamless, speedy access and flexibility between team and application support users across our business. Since GitLab's introduction have had no issues with code management and deployment to date since!
