Overall Satisfaction with Google Gemini

Recently we've been taking advantage of Google Gemini "Gems", where we thoughtfully prompt Google Gemini to perform time consuming or repetitive tasks. One of our favorite implementations is SOC Bot - a compliance minded assistant that is seeded with our policies and SOC System description. It aids us in answering vendor questionnaires, auditor requests, and internal queries about the controls that we have in place. It democratizes our security and compliance efforts, making us more secure and well informed.

Pros

  • Organizes brain dumps of information into coherent and readily understood content
  • Remembers context provided in past messages and understanding how to return output
  • Good integration with Google Sheets and Docs, allowing for seamless export and speedy delivery to production

Cons

  • Currently the document database caps out at 10, requiring us to condense some of our policies
  • It's large context window is a blessing and a curse. Sometimes it stops generating half way through a very ambitious request as it delivers page after page of content
  • There is no way to share Gems currently, so we have to publish guides to our employees on how to best configure them
  • Increased speed to answer compliance questionnaires, allowing us to sign contracts and deals sooner
  • Less time spent reviewing vendor documentation or SOC 2 reports, allowing us to keep a flat headcount of compliance individuals as our business scales
  • Less need for continuing education, as developing with Google Gemini is informative and great on the job learning
Very user friendly, however it could be clearer to new users of the platform what exactly each model is good at. For example, the flash models for day to day tasks, the 2.5 pro for complex multi-step problems, etc. I have done plenty of trial and error to get a good gut feel, but some further UI tweaks or recommendations might be good for new users.
Best at productivity based tasks that I encounter in the workplace. I spend about 20% of my time developing, and a majority of it doing overhead or operational tasks. Google Gemini is the best for analyzing spreadsheets, performing forecasting tasks, etc. If I was more development focused, I would likely choose Anthropic's Claude, and if I was in research I might choose ChatGPT. Google Gemini seems the best for well rounded corporate individuals.

It is great for the ideation phase of nearly any initiative. It is not as good at coding as Claude, but it is very strong for building Python scrips and workflows to help you complete a day to day task. It is very educational, with explanations for everything it is doing. I learn constantly as I work with Google Gemini.
