Overall Satisfaction with Google Maps API
I use Google Maps API to obtain direct mileage for better rates and alternate routes for drivers. Business problems I encounter are related to truck routes VS. auto routes. My drivers will often search and take alternate routes to avoid tolls and other high traffic areas they may encounter. I do not solely rely on Google Maps but rather use it as an alternate map to obtain more information along their route.
Pros
- Point to Point mileage
- actual routes and best use route planning
- Traffic and other incident reporting real time
Cons
- Best case truck route planning
- zip to zip mileage accuracy
- Toll accuracy and bridge management
- Positive: Helped me maximize rate accuracy when quoting new lanes
- Negative: Driver will use an alternate route due to my Maps route not being the best truck route
- Positive: Traffic and incident updates on real time lanes to help the drivers plan their route.
Google Maps is a much more user-friendly way to search for the information I need to properly set up lanes, quote customers rates, and provide help to my drivers when they are planning their route. The platform interface is much easier on the eyes and less questions and concerns arise when using Google Maps
