Overall Satisfaction with Google Workspace Essentials (formerly G Suite Essentials)

Overall, Google Workspace Essentials is a reliable network drive that allows users to share content and update it for work purposes. Sometimes it can be time-consuming in that it doesn't always sync in real-time the way that you would need it to, but in the end, it will do the syncing if you have enough patience. Moving files and folders around can sometimes feel as if it's taking too many steps to accomplish, but I can't think of an easier way right now. It does the job in the end.
  • Allows for easy access to documents for purposes of sharing
  • Allows for easy downloads of files/folders
  • The Word/Excel sheets are compatible with how you use it offline
  • Syncing sometimes has issues. There is sometimes a delay.
  • Uploading docs sometimes has issues. It stalls when you are uploading two or more docs simultaneously.
  • Shared content
  • Easy access
  • User-friendly
  • Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, my department began working remotely more often, so it was essential that we had some type of network drive/cloud where we could share content.
Google Workspace Essentials allows for more features to be used and seems to break/branch things into a more organized way. Dropbox Business is decent, but the user interface isn't as friendly. We primarily rely on Google Workspace Essentials, as it seems to be more popular for work purposes. Both are good, however.

Do you think Google Workspace Essentials delivers good value for the price?

Not sure

Are you happy with Google Workspace Essentials's feature set?

Yes

Did Google Workspace Essentials live up to sales and marketing promises?

No

Did implementation of Google Workspace Essentials go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Google Workspace Essentials again?

Yes

The other day I had a folder filled with many files/docs on my PC that needed to be uploaded into Google Workspace Essentials. To upload one at a time was going to be time-consuming, so I tried uploading several at a time, but then I don't know if there was a bandwidth problem, but the uploading stalled. I had to reduce it down to two docs per upload, which was better than one at a time but still time-consuming.

Using Google Workspace Essentials (formerly G Suite Essentials)

5 - Shared content on students and immigration documents uploaded, viewed, reviewed, and occasionally downloaded in the formats of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and pdfs.
5 - People who work in education at the administrative level.
  • Organizing / updating / data-tracking of student information
  • Downloading content for use
  • Uploading
  • We have been able to keep track of what has been shared, and by whom and when. It has come in handy when we have tried to keep a trail of evidence.
  • It might be useful if we can communicate with one another in real time, such as via speaker / phone, the way that MS Teams allows for to do. But I don't know if this feature will be available for G Suite.
Now that our department has used G Suite Essentials for close to 2 years, I can't imagine not using it. It has proven to be a very practical tool for sharing files / folders on a shared drive. It also makes it easy to modify and update content. It is user friendly and the interface is simple.
