Overall Satisfaction with IBM Planning Analytics

IBM Planning Analytics is used for Supply chain planning. It is used to develop a consensus demand forecast. It helps to prevent procuring the wrong inventory, and to encourage procurement of the right inventory, for a wholesale distribution business. Approximately 7000 products are forecast across 20+ locations. Users from Sales and Marketing collaborate to overlay market intelligence. This bottom up forecast is compared with the top down finance forecast (budget) and any gaps are investigated.

Pros

  • Statistical forecasting
  • Spreading results to lower hierarchy levels
  • Dealing with an extremely large number of products and locations

Cons

  • User interface could do with some templates to speed up deployment
  • IBM Carbon has great flexibility but is cumbersome to use
  • Early days but forecast accuracy has improved by 25% and inventory is slowly reducing
  • Has facilitated better internal collaboration
  • Has provided more confidence in the procurement plans
Very. But not developed yet.
Ability to plan more products, locations, customers
Less expensive
Client already had IBM PA for FP&A

Would you buy IBM Planning Analytics again?

Yes

Just a bit clunky and UX pages are cumbersome
Well suited to organisations that deal in physical goods and therefore have supply chains.
A great replacement for legacy systems.
Very price competitive with other solutions in this space.
Ideal for very large number of products, locations, customers.
Appropriate for clients that already use PA for FP&A
Less appropriate in case IBM is not in the current technology stack.
