Overall Satisfaction with IBM Planning Analytics

We use IBM Planning Analytics in various different planning processes. Zero based expense planning, headcount based HR planning, compensation and incentive planning, sales and revenue planning are the key areas that we use IBM Planning Analytics for. IBM Planning Analytics provides us a flexible platform where we can easily create application that suits our need. I can confidently say that the platform's flexibility is the key strength. There is hardly anything that cannot be achieved or too challenging to build within the system. Therefore we can easily grow the application across different functions in the organization. IBM's quick and in depth support also gives us confident in terms of deploying application in so many areas within our organization. The platform also is very easy to use for the business users. Once users get used to the application they never want to go back to their huge Excel world. Overall we are very satisfied with the solution.

Pros

  • Flexibility of modelling for different business needs.
  • Ease of use.
  • Integration capabilities
  • Performance on large data sets.

Cons

  • Some visualization capabilities for reporting can be improved.
  • Excel add-in support for different O/S
  • Time savings of the planning team
  • Ad-hoc reporting capabilities
  • Scenario modelling.
Flexibility to adapt new business needs, easy to model and use. Quick scenario modelling and providing different reporting tool for the business users so that they can deliver what upper management request within minutes. Also it's integration capabilities with ERP and other in house system proves to be very effective and easy to establish.
Scenario modeling was very hard before usin IBM Planning Analytics. Using so many different Excel based files makes it very difficult to update data manually, collect them from many different business functions and bring them together and run reports. These were very labour intensive and error prone operations before using IBM Planning Analytics. But now, users single sign on to the system and just updates designated versions and voila.
IBM Planning Analytics flexibility is what makes it stand out between the others. Generally in other platforms you are restricted to predefined flows. Although it sounds good in the beginning, when you start using those systems you face some challenges when trying to adapt new business needs. This is what IBM Planning Analytics does perfectly.
