Overall Satisfaction with IBM SevOne

In our company we run as a 3PL and light manufacture with over 170,000 sqft of space so warehouse network connectivity is very critical to our operations. It allows us to monitor devices and network metrics to watch for application performances. We can define alerts, baselining, anomaly detection and improve metadata as well.

Pros

  • To see trends in network usage, identify upgrade switches, increase bandwidth and cabling
  • Provide dashboards to operations, logistics for both warehouse and production managers
  • Can integrate into incident systems to auto create tickets when issues happen

Cons

  • Complexity of deployment and configurations
  • Upgrades and customization challenges
  • Cost maybe a factor for companies with constrained budgets
  • You may get false alarms or alert from deduplication
  • Cost may not be saturable for those with constrained budgets.
  • Updates and customization may cause a challenge with level of complexity.
  • Complexity of deployment and configuration also a hurdle
  • Scale and proactive issue notice are plus for this platform
The extensive vendor, device support, multicloud compatibility. The visibility and application centric insight of network and how it impacts performance of other applications. The scalability and monitoring at scale, allowing for growth with the organization for many devices and flow of records. Lastly, the predictive and proactive capabilities to notice trends and issues before it reaches the user so that it can be fixed preventing any downtime.
Scope and prioritize critical network paths and devices. Pilot different phased rollouts. Define SLAs and mapping to Ops. Integration with IT or OT application teams. Dashboarding for operations that are meaningful for warehouse personnel. Monitoring wireless devices for barcode scanners, cameras and other devices. Plan for resiliency and redundancy for critical network devices. Review and continuous tuning allowing periodical review.
Zabbix is very cost effective, good flexibility, easy to start and customizable. This is a plus compared to IBM SevOne. However it is more manual work, less polished user interface and may need more effort to handle larger networks. IBM Netcool has service provider network, scalability and apart of IBM product stack. It may have a less modern interface and could be more complexed to maintain, slower integration and high cost of licensing.
