Overall Satisfaction with IBM watsonx Assistant

We mainly use IBM watsonx Assistant as a coding assistant to help us develop quickly simple demos or proof of concepts of new software products and solutions for our clients.

Pros

  • Good at generating and debugging code
  • Good support from IBM
  • Easy to use

Cons

  • Japanese language support for the documentation
  • Sometimes generates outdated code
  • Reduce the time and cost pf demo development
  • Accelerate the development cycle in agile scneroos
The code generation feature
Build demos and proof of concepts very fast, which helps accelerate the agile development and go to market process of new products ideas.
The code generation feature of IBM watsonx Assistant was slightly better than in ChatGPT and Vertex AI.
However that might change in the future since AI engines are evolving very quickly.

It is a good tool to generate pieces of code that an experienced software engineer will have to understand, integrate, and maybe fix if necessary.
It works for small scale software development like demos, but it is not ready yet for use in large scale, commercial software development.
