Overall Satisfaction with IBM webMethods

My organisation is a service oriented company which use IBM webMethods
every day to answer my customers’ needs. My customers are from a lot of business
domains like retail, bank or public administration. Our main business problems
are to help systems to communicate correctly between each other. IBM webMethods
is a useful software for data governance.

Pros

  • It helps the applications to communicate each other.
  • It helps to manage big data loads with asynchronous mechanism
  • It is user-friendly with his low code user interface

Cons

  • IA investment like chat bot
  • To make API building easier and faster
  • Improving Git oriented features (comparing and merging .xml files are difficult)
  • + : We and our customers gain time with automatic processes
  • - : It takes a lot of time to design API
  • - : Java is slow. So we need to put a lot of time into flows improvments to reach our goals.
IBM webMethods is adaptive to a lot, if not "all", kind of systems and databases. It allows to mange any type of transaction, even XA, and is a good solution to help our customers to keep governance over data in theirs IT environments. Years after years, a lot of solutions are provided into IBM webMethods "packages" to continue to work with newer technologies.
Since V10.15, IBM webMethods is compatible with Docker. It helps a lot to build and deploy a lot of "images" on differents environments. Moreover, with IBM webmethods Microservices Runtime and the well made CI/CD, deployment is a lot easier, and automatic. Time used with IBM webMethods Deployer, can be now used for other things.

No doubt IBM is cooking something great for v11, but in v10 IBM webMethods has weaknesses : - There is no offer for smallest companies (the licences are expensive) - WebMethods.io is not that easy to take in hand, so it's not for "beginners". You need to develop Flow Services for most of the cases.
