Overall Satisfaction with IBM Z Enterprise Servers

We are a reseller of System Z and we use it to demo solutions for customers. It solves issues with security and server consolidation. Our customers are interested in those two main issues. They are looking at MFA for security and encryption for data in flight or at rest. Other issues are server consolidation in Linux on System Z.
  • Security
  • Encryption
  • Server Consolidation
  • For IBM to be more open to open source.
  • Needs better education for zOS, zVM and other legacy technologies.
  • More completive pricing for customers using open technologies.
  • Positive is ROI is high mainly because of consolidation which leads to software savings.
  • A negative is that most people coming out of college do not understand System Z.
  • A positive is that it is the fastest server on the market hands down.
ICP from IBM is one product that excels on System Z. The technology called secured LPAR we are able to encrypt not only the data but the whole machine so that it can not be broken into. Also, ICP product is the same as it is for any other platform so developers are able to pick it easily.
I would recommend IBM Z because it is one of the most secure, robust servers on the market. The servers are expensive but there are ways to save enormous amounts on software costs. Also, the industry is in dire need of people in this field. If one went into it they would be in high demand.
