Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Informatica Cloud Data Integration for a number of things. We use it to retrieve files from and SFTP and import records into our CRM. We use it to create reports that combine data from multiple systems that are otherwise not connected. We also use it to update records within our CRM based on criteria. Most of the processes are executed by automated jobs running on a schedule.

Informatica allows our system administrators to perform numerous data tasks without having to engage developers.
Scheduling functionality is a huge time saver. Email notifications alert us to any errors encountered.

There is a learning curve with Informatica. It is not always intuitive to use. It is best suited for technical users such as system administrators.

Alternatives Considered

DemandTools

We also use Demand Tools from Validity. Demand Tools is a simpler tool and is easier for business users to comprehend. It has less of a learning curve. However, it is not nearly as powerful or feature - rich as Informatica. Also, the scheduled job functionality of Informatica is more robust.

We use it a lot for importing data. We transform the incoming data to match the formatting of our CRM. We also match on existing records to avoid creating duplicates. Informatica handles all of this exceptionally well. Our users are system administrators. The tool is not well-suited for users who do not have a technical background.
