Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Infosec Skills is used in our school program to help provide the fundamental skills, methodology, and hands-on experience to start us on our journey into the cybersecurity industry.
It is exclusively used by our organization to compliment our lectures as well as reenforce it with hands-on labs.
Infosec Skills allows us to be able to conduct network vulnerability system scans without consequence or disruption to legitimate business operations.

Pros and Cons

Pros

It's a great supplement to our course lecture.
Hands-on exposure to tools and methods are crucial to our learning.
Infosec Skills also contains all the necessary environments configured to perform the labs easily.

Cons

When taking the quizzes, the question dialog box would always close, causing me to have to constantly click on the quiz I'm taking to get back into it. Long quizzes are brutal to get through.
Because the dialog box keeps closing, if I missed a question I would not get an explanation or the correct answer.
There is also a bug that I found, which exposes the answer to the quiz in clear text.

Return on Investment

I've developed new skills and reenforced others.
Filled in gaps in my preexisting knowledge.

I can't remember which service I was looking into, but I had to hack them to get an invite to join their service. It was an interesting concept but I found it cumbersome and didn't care for it. For my taste, it was not what I was looking for.

Usability

When taking the quizzes, the dialog box would always close causing me to constantly go back into that quiz. Subsequently, I would not know what the correct answer was or given an explanation as to why my answer was wrong. It got annoying very quickly and caused me to lose interest in doing the quizzes in one sitting.

Likelihood to Recommend

Infosec Skills is well suited if you are a beginner trying to gain the needed exposure to the tools, environment, and methods of cybersecurity. It does well if you are supplementing its lessons with a proper educationally outlined program. Having a lab environment that is preconfigured for immediate use provides a convenience to students who don't have the time or resources to build their own labs from the ground up.
