Overall Satisfaction with IntelliMagic Vision for z/OS

Use IntelliMagic Vision to provide reports/graphs on utilization and identify top targets for tuning or realignment based on peak 4HRA.
The key business problem the product addresses is Mainframe cost containment/avoidance, either thru identifying Mainframe tuning inefficiencies or avoiding batch contention during peak utilization periods.

Pros

  • Identifies the top batch users during the peak 4HRA period
  • Provides health check snapshots for various Mainframe metrics
  • Provides quick insight for incident resolution

Cons

  • Lack of insight into IMS utilization at a transactional level
  • Lack of a detailed User Guide for navigation of VIsion
  • Reduced z/OS infrastructure costs based on identifying high CPU usage batch jobs during peak 4HRA window
  • Faster generation of charts used during incident resolution, reducing MTTR
Extensive experience in performance/capacity of the Mainframe based on 39+ years experience as a MICS/MXG user and administrator and SAS-certified professional.
Vision allowed for expedited generation of charts, more time dedicated to analysis than report generation. Also allowed less skilled users to navigate and generated their own charts, freeing up support time.
IntelliMagic has been very responsive to all inquiries, very pro-active in educating via their webinar series, less reliance on 3rd-party SaaS vendor to get answers to questions or to identify potential tuning opportunities
These are the legacy products that have been used for capacity/performance/billing and report generation over many years. Some are better suited for solutions using programmatic interfaces ( internal billing ), and processing IMS transactional data in particular. For most
tasks, however, Vision can generate charts, provide levels of drill-down, allow a focus on analysis rather than report generation, much faster with greater reliability and less required training than the above products

Well suited for when a quick chart needs to be generated, or a chart showing a metric over an extended period of time.

Might be less appropriate where trying to categorize based on Line of Business ( for internal chargeback, for example ). While it can be done, more difficult than a programmatic mapping solution.
