Overall Satisfaction with Juniper AP Series Access Points

We deployed Juniper access points to all our offices. The
previous vendor we used had an on-prem controller and did not offer much in the
way of network visibility. With Mist, we have all the visibility we need. Mist
alerted me when I had an AP that had "insufficient capacity." I moved
that AP slightly and brought in an additional AP. Another problem fixed and I
got to it before users complained.

I use Mist's Radius solution which is great. Our requirements for
authentication are fairly simple. Do you have a cert and are you a user in our
MS Entra environment? If so, come on in. Mist Radius can do way more, but I don’t
need it at this time.

Another feature I really enjoy is having different PSKs for the same SSID. I
can segment IOT devices depending on which PSK they use without deploying a new
SSID.

Pros

  • Mist APs are really good at self-adjusting power and channels.
  • Mist APs provide quality bandwidth to all users.
  • Mist Radius meets my authentication needs for production users.

Cons

  • I had to order a separate mount for some APs. The included mount was tilted in some of my deployment areas.
  • The much advertised Marvis Minis does not work with the recommended firmware level of the APs.
  • Honestly, the best thing I can say is users had no idea we changed the network. We went from a network with little to no problems to a new network with no problems.
  • When we deployed the new Access Points, users just connected and went about their day.
I can trust Juniper's auto power and channel adjustments. My previous network I had to manage this and it was a nightmare.

I sent access points to a remote office with no technical people on staff. The user no-site was able to remove the old access point and hang the new access point. Everything just worked after they connected.
I prefer Juniper. Configuring the extreme environment was odd and clunky. Three years after we deployed Extreme I got informed the virtual controller we were using was end of life. The APs were still good, just the controller was end of life. I had to deploy a new virtual controller and reconfigure everything. I won't have this problem with Mist's cloud controller.

Do you think HPE Juniper Access Points delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with HPE Juniper Access Points's feature set?

Yes

Did HPE Juniper Access Points live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of HPE Juniper Access Points go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy HPE Juniper Access Points again?

Yes

The APs I use are great for an office environment. I can only speak to that because I don't deploy APs elsewhere. I have ceiling mounted AP34s and AP45s. I use the AP45s in large areas where we host large events. I use AP34s in the rest of the office to support production user needs.

I have a floor with a vaulted ceiling where I can't affix an AP. For this floor I deployed AP12s under numerous desks. They don't provide access to the 6 GHz channel but they do everything else I need.
