Overall Satisfaction with Linode

We use Linode to run our own server for web hosting, email, mailing lists, and web hosting. We like being able to run things exactly how we want to, rather than being boxed in by how hosted services want us to run things.

  • Networking options on a cloned Linode can be confusing.
  • Bring back discounted paying by the year.
  • Increase the disk quotas for low-CPU plans.
  • Allowed us to run exactly what we want, how we want.
  • Excellent value for services provided, so helps cut expenses.
  • Overall, has increased ROI.
We have gotten generally good help, but it can sometimes take a while to get a response. Also, now and then the help isn’t much more than quoting back documents you can read yourself.
It has kept cost of ownership low. No need to have a physical machine or use a data center or colocation facility.
Uptime disruptions are very rare with Linode in our experience. This is important as we do not want to miss any important emails.
Linode is excellent for when you want the power and flexibility of running an actual Linux server.

However, this also means you have to know how to be a Linux sysadmin. It is definitely not a turnkey operation.
