Linode is my favorite cloud vendor
Overall Satisfaction with Linode
We use Linode across our organization to host our web applications that provide free recorded audio lectures. We wanted a platform that would give us the ability to completely manage our instances as we want them, that would not limit what technologies we use, and, most importantly, that did not oversell their hardware capacity. After trying several other providers that failed to meet our needs in various ways, we found Linode, and we have been happy customers for over a decade.
Pros
- Uncomplicated pricing.
- Great performance.
- Great reliability.
- Easy-to-read documentation.
Cons
- It would be nice to have a border firewall and have easier private communication between instances.
- We run our organization on donations from our visitors, so we need to be efficient with our funds, and Linode has allowed us to do this.
- Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Lightsail and InMotion Hosting
We had previously used inMotion's shared hosting, so when we started to outgrow that service we considered using their VPS option. We found that it would be more expensive than Linode, and not as powerful.
We considered Amazon EC2, but it is much easier to get started with Linode than with any Amazon service. Amazon's pricing can be confusing, and we know too many other businesses that have had trouble with their Amazon EC2 instances when the underlying hardware had trouble or was oversold. In contrast, the one time we had a Linode hardware issue, Linode support identified it and notified us that they were migrating us to new hardware before we even noticed the problem ourselves.
