Overall Satisfaction with Linode

We have been using Linode public cloud for various security experiments at the University of Waterloo SWAG lab. First, we assessed the benchmark of the cloud instances and scanned for default security mechanisms available in the public instance of Linode for research study purposes. We went on using Linode for processing our Kafka Stream events separately to determine its capacity and usage across our SWAG lab.
  • Default security updates
  • Efficient computing instances
  • Well defined admin panel to manage instances
  • Customer support
  • Estimate billing based on usages
  • S3 like bucket object
  • Security experimentation process
  • Low cost
  • Scalable across teams
We evaluated DigitalOcean vs. Elastic Beanstalk before Linode, which was pretty cost intensive for deploying basic machines in the cloud for experimentation purposes. So, we had to switch to Linode for cost-effectiveness and default security mechanisms built inside Linode.
Linode has extensive documentation and self-support a lot but getting answers to most technical questions had a lot of round trips between customer support and the tech teams. A lot of things had to be figured out on our own by doing a few analyses and self-experiments, such as KVM support on the cloud.
Yes, as I mentioned, Linode was very cost-effective comparing other public clouds for doing experiments and starting up initial projects without much amount to spend. Additionally, the computing instance was may much better than peers with easy and reliable access every time. Linode has provided value in terms of cost and performance.
We didn't have any SLA or uptime for the organization within the University of Waterloo as it basically experimented to run on the public cloud for research purposes as it was not serving any public-facing traffic. However, we were able to access the cloud even from home due to COVID situations.

Do you think Akamai Cloud Computing delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Akamai Cloud Computing's feature set?

Yes

Did Akamai Cloud Computing live up to sales and marketing promises?

Yes

Did implementation of Akamai Cloud Computing go as expected?

Yes

Would you buy Akamai Cloud Computing again?

Yes

Linode is comparatively affordable to Azure and, GCP, AWS. For starters experiments, I would strongly suggest Linode as the best place to begin experimentation. Linode is very cost-effective for setting up custom tech stacks like LAMP or MEAN stack to deploy applications. Additionally, the documentation was really good for self-support users.
