Overall Satisfaction with Marketo Marketing Automation

We're using Marketo to execute much of our digital marketing strategy for North America. It is exclusively used by the marketing team. We partnered with Marketo in order to be able to quickly build new campaigns, specifically we were very interested in the cloning features. The tool has been very useful, and the cloning features have certainly lived up to their potential.
  • Repeatable process: with the right documentation, it is easy to set up your Marketo instance in a user-friendly and repeatable way. Proper folder structures, proper naming conventions, and the cloning features make Marketo a marketer's dream for repeatability.
  • Easy to use: An intuitive interface, together with a great user community, makes Marketo easy to use.
  • Advanced features for advanced users: For those of us who want the more advanced reporting, it is readily available with Marketo. But, never fear, a more basic user can still feel right at home.
  • More functionality for 3rd party integration: there are some specific features missing from Marketo vs a previous MAP that I've used which limit my ability to integrate with third parties. Specifically, it would be nice to be able to provide URL access to dynamic lists.
  • Better partner portal: the partner portal is a little clumsy, and from what I can tell Marketo does not hold its vendors to any standards in terms of responding back to inquiries.
  • Improved mobile support: the platform does not come with a lot of out-of-the-box mobile support. This requires some heavy lifting for mobile friendly templates. It is still very doable, it just requires some work.
  • We generated ~$3M in pipeline within 48 hours of our first campaign
  • The dynamic form features have given us a more robust form strategy
  • The clone features have saved us a ton of time
Act-On was very basic, and it was not well suited to our multi-funnel model. We have many products, and we need to be able to track users across many funnels and score them differently based on different sets of actions. I found this hard to do with Act-On.
Pardot is a Sales enablement tool. It is designed for companies where sales holds the reigns. Marketers will not find Pardot as robust as other tools like Marketo.
Marketo is for those who either have the time or the money to do it right. For the cost of the tool, make sure that your team is positioned to actually use all of the features. If you can't afford the time or resources required to fully leverage the tool, you may be better served with a less sophisticated platform.

Using Marketo Marketing Automation

It is 100% likely that we will renew. The tool is an excellent fit. We're investing in its development, and we're not likely to want to start over again. Additionally, we're finding that many other of our peer companies are continuing to adopt more sophisticated MAP tools like Marketo. We want to make sure we're partnered with the best tool for the future.

Using Marketo

Marketo is awesome. The features provided make it very easy to scale, and provide fast and efficient campaign creation. The only area that is lacking today is responsive landing page design. However, I understand that this is a feature that is on the roadmap for mid-2015 release. Compared to other MAPs that I have used before, Marketo is definitely a cut above.
