Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations (Dynamics AX)
This system is used organization-wide as the financial system of record. All employees enter project time sheets, expenses, and the finance team uses it for all AP, AR, tax and project accounting and reporting. We had an older platform and upgrade to take advantage of the continuous updates offered by Microsoft.
Pros
- Platform stability.
- Support.
- Continuous updates.
- Life cycles services for deploying and managing environments.
Cons
- Complexity of the system - most things require coding.
- Mobile workspaces aren’t great and while usable aren’t that intuitive.
- Cloud hosted development environments take a long time to configure and deploy databases to.
- With the robust built-in reporting we were able to drop an external reporting platform that costed about $40,000.
- API integrations have saved manual entry and reduced having to hire 2-3 people to manage data.
- Several administrators and developers are required for this which costs about 200-300 thousand in employee costs.
- NetSuite and Epicor ERP
Microsoft D365 FO stands out amongst the competitors with its strong backing on the Microsoft Azure cloud and the life cycle services is the best I’ve seen. There is a ways to go in making it low/no code and mobile is there but not great. Overall an ok product as ERP is a difficult space.
