Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Edge
We use a wide range of browsers in our organization for our development efforts (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Microsoft Edge). There are some legacy systems that we work with that utilize aspects of the Microsoft Edge in IE Mode functionality, so we exclusively utilize that particular browser for this need. There are many organizations in our field that do the same.
Pros
- Renders the legacy IE pages as needed.
- Browser is reliable and speedy.
- Settings are user friendly and easy to navigate.
Cons
- Microsoft Edge could definitely work on it's development in regard to mobile compatibility.
- Microsoft Edge is unable to have cross-device access on Chromebooks OS.
- Microsoft Edge's extension availability falls very short compared to other browser's offerings.
- Positive - we can still utilize certain needed things via the IE Mode.
- Negative - there have been times in our development efforts, that Microsoft Edge has posed special challenges that other browsers did not.
- Positive - Microsoft Edge has a less impact on systems when running, so if RAM and resources are a concern, then Microsoft Edge is a great browser.
We selected Microsoft Edge because we had a certain business need that utilized their Microsoft Edge in IE Mode. Once we began to use the browser more, we found that it was much less taxing on our system's resources than other browsers, especially Google Chrome. Less RAM being utilized by the browser resulted in a much more positive session for the end users.
