Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft System Center

In the past, we did update our servers and clients manually (by WSUS). We had different tools for different workloads. With SCCM, we now have a single tool for managing and maintaining all our servers and clients without issues.

Pros

  • Operating system deployment.
  • Application/software deployment.
  • Software updates.

Cons

  • I think there will be no further big improvements, since Microsoft's focus is on Intune only.
  • It’s hard to set up.
  • You need servers.
SCCM is a powerful platform that, once properly configured, simply works. The first experience can be challenging, especially for new administrators. The product offers a wide range of features across different consoles and menus, which can make it difficult to find the right settings at first. However, once you understand the structure, you quickly see how flexible and reliable SCCM is for managing, updating, and deploying systems within an organization.
SCCM is often considered superior to Intune because it is more predictable and transparent in day-to-day operations. Errors in SCCM are clearer and easier to troubleshoot, whereas Intune issues can feel vague and harder to diagnose. SCCM also offers rich, built-in features such as CMPivot, which provides real-time insights without additional licensing—something you often have to pay extra for in Intune. Another major advantage is SCCM’s ability to manage offline devices, which is essential in many enterprise environments. It also provides a single tool to manage both workstations and servers, which Intune simply does not. Task Sequences in SCCM are on a completely different level compared to Autopilot. Autopilot is highly limited: you can’t even define a proper installation order, which is often critical in complex deployments . Finally, running only Intune is rarely sufficient. Organizations are frequently forced to purchase additional tools, such as Recast Application Workspace, Right Click Tools, or other third-party solutions, to fill gaps that SCCM already covers out of the box.
