Overall Satisfaction with Microsoft Yammer

Yammer helps me and the rest of my team share and communicate in an efficient and timely manner. We can start topics, share insights, and collaborate easily. With users around the world, we are all often not online at the same time. Yammer lets us share our thoughts and idea, then get feedback from those working around the world.

Salesforce Chatter was the initial product we tested as we already use Salesforce throughout the organization. We thought it would be a natural fit. However, we found it was difficult to keep the many groups, thoughts and ideas separate in Chatter, with many of our topics getting lost or directed to the wrong people. Additionally, Salesforce's Chatter search functionality leaves a lot to be desired.
As with all Microsoft products, support is a double edged sword. Because of the size of Microsoft, the number of customers they cover, and the fact they have business and consumer clients, there is often a lot of layers between you and the support team. That being said, there is also a deep well of online knowledge in the many different communities and websites, so self help is fairly easy.

Yammer is a great way for storing tribal knowledge about the team, the customers, and best practices. Yammer has a great search ability, allowing users to go back and find old topics and articles. Yammer may not be the best tool for brainstorming or nuanced conversations as the tone is lost and the feed is very linear.
