Overall Satisfaction with OpenVPN Access Server

The majority of OpenVPN users are our sales staff, who travel quite often. While on the road, either with a customer or in between at a hotel, they may need to access files or tools that are kept solely in our network. Using OpenVPN is easy, and they can access our network from anywhere.

Pros

  • Speed of logging in.
  • Lengthy session times.
  • Ease of troubleshooting.

Cons

  • None, it accomplishes everything we need it for.
  • We've sunset tools built strictly to bypass our old, worthless VPN.
  • Faster response time from Sales staff to build a quote for our customers due to easy access to the network files they need.
We've never had any issues with usability. The UI is very intuitive, and our general user base (which is not very tech-savvy) can use OpenVPN with two clicks since we have SAML set up. It's the easiest thing ever for them, and I don't know how we'd even begin to improve on it.
OpenVPN had a better UI and usability for our team. It was more straightforward, had better SAML integration, and allowed our team to be on the VPN and on our network in seconds. We had some issues getting Nord to work for our use cases, and have run into pretty much zero issues with OpenVPN.

OpenVPN is great for anyone who needs to access internal company resources while away from the office. For us, it's useful for our office staff if they need to work from home for a day or are at a work conference. I can see where it would not be helpful if you didn't store much on your intranet, but we do, so it's very helpful.
