Overall Satisfaction with Oracle APEX

During my over eight-year career as an Oracle APEX Developer, I've developed numerous applications using Oracle APEX technology for various industries, including telecommunications, banking, and pharmaceuticals. The business challenge is usually similar: creating a web application in the shortest possible time. I believe Oracle APEX is an excellent tool for such tasks. Thanks to the many components we can use out-of-the-box, application development is very fast and highly effective.

Pros

  • Great reporting tool!
  • Create charts and dashboards in a fun and clear way.
  • A way to work with flat files like Excel or CSV.
  • A great connection between the Oracle database and the web-based interpretation of that database in the form of an application.

Cons

  • Difficult work for offline applications: APEX should maintain a connection to the database at all times.
  • Harder work with typical mobile applications.
  • One-page applications. APEX is a typical framework with many smaller pages.
  • You can create a web application with basic business requirements in literally 2 hours.
  • It is very easy to create a PoC of an application for a client in Oracle APEX.
  • If a client comes with the idea of ​​a mobile application, it is better to consider other technologies.
The overall usability of Oracle APEX is incredibly versatile! Imagine starting with a blank slate—for example, a single flat file, such as an Excel report. Using built-in components and the ease of using flat files, you can create an application in just minutes. APEX will help you create an application from scratch, preparing a basic dashboard and report using the file.
Our company was preparing a comparison of Oracle APEX against other low-code technologies. The focus was primarily on Mendix and Microsoft Power Apps. As with any technology, each platform has its pros and cons. I would choose Oracle APEX because clients often already have an Oracle database, but they don't always realize they can use it with Oracle APEX. This easily accessible platform is a great web-based interpretation of the database.

If you need to develop an application very quickly, without unnecessary lengthy specifications or business requirements, something you need right away, while utilizing all the capabilities of the Oracle database, APEX is the right choice. Thanks to the many components you use from the vast Oracle APEX library, working with this tool is exceptionally pleasant, fast, and effective.
