Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

It was reviewed within the scope of testing our application for a customer that would want to run on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, virtualizing our platform on it. This was the customer's choice, and our QA team then needed to validate installation and runtime support. This was an initial evaluation, with no prior experience.

Pros

  • Lots of documentation
  • Robust security principles

Cons

  • Too much documentation
  • Documentation a little too reference-style
  • Long turnaround for inquiries
  • No hard number as we simply had to ensure it was a viable platform
  • The certification process succeeded, so we were able to add it as a supported container environment for the customer
  • What is unclear, is whether the knowledge acquired is transferable
No concern on infrastructure performance. Once resources were requested to the appropriate levels (memory intensive app is either a works-or-does-not), the cpu cores were not an issue. Cost however, that is a different story!

I have no doubt of the security posture of an Oracle Cloud Infrastructure install, and the documentation is all there, but it is not really easy to learn from. We had to ask our best devops types to try out various approaches... eventually it can always be done, but it's tedious to get there, compared to GCP/Azure.

Robustness seemed clear, but a lot of config files to deal with.
