Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Dyn Managed DNS

We are using Oracle Dyn DNS as a Hosted service for our external DNS for our entire organization. We chose to do this as part of a multi-year strategy to move to cloud services to reduce the support burdens on our IT staff.
  • The biggest advantage is that Dyn DNS reduces the workload on our internal IT staff. Mainly in regards to maintenance and patching but also from a security and monitoring standpoint.
  • The system is easy to use and requires very little training or expertise.
  • We have not had to call support very often over the years. But when we have they have always answered our questions and in a timely manner.
  • I would like to see the cost of the service reduced. While we do get value from the service there have been times more recently where we have considered moving DNS back in-house. This is not due to any issues with the service or support. If we were to do that it would be purely a financial decision as IT budgets are forced to do more with less.
  • Prior to moving to Dyn DNS we had periodic network outages related to our internally hosted DNS going offline (server patching, hardware failure, etc...) Since moving to Dyn DNS several years ago we have had zero network outages due to DNS. Their service is highly reliable.
We look for high quality products that are built well and do not require us to contact support very often. Dyn DNS fits that requirement for us. We have rarely had to call support over the years but when we have called we have always had our questions answered in a timely manner.
Our experience has been that the user interface for Dyn DNS is relatively simple and yet fully functional. We have also found that DYN DNS has all the features we have needed including some lesser used ones like the ability to reroute a DNS query to a fully qualified URL path.
Dyn DNS is well suited at providing external DNS hosting for large organizations that need high levels of reliability, performance and support. It is probably less appropriate for smaller companies with lower DNS usage. For companies with low DNS usage there are much cheaper alternatives in the market.
