Overall Satisfaction with Oracle Dyn Managed DNS

We manage roughly 300 websites as part of our overall marketing plan for our clients. We use Dyn to manage DNS for just about all of them. The biggest thing it helps with is the cname flattening, which allows us to move websites across servers and maintain connectivity, because the A record isn't directly linked to an IP address.
  • We love the cname flattening. This allows us to be extremely flexible.
  • We love their user management, which allows us to manage our 15 users across departments.
  • The advanced DNS tools really help us to get the most from our DNS needs.
  • The interface seems slightly outdated compared with the likes of GoDaddy and even CloudFlare. We still love the functionality, but that is one recommendation I have with my history in the front end.
  • I'd like to see Dyn offer open source SSLs. This is one thing I still really like about CloudFlare's service.
  • I don't have specific numbers, but I know that it has saved us time, which equals numbers, by being flexible and feature-rich.
I love both services, but for my personal use, I still like CloudFlare because of their SSL service and interface. In terms of managed DNS features, I don't notice a difference in features. My company uses Dyn, and I have no issues at all with it. It still serves our specific use case well, since our hosting provider provides free open source SSLs.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever even needed their support in the two years I've used the product. This is a testament to the quality of product at Dyn. It does what it says it's supposed to, every time.
I still rate it as an 8 overall, as the interface could use a refresher. A modern interface that is easy to use is crucial.
To anyone who is building on WordPress, we always recommend Dyn and WP Engine. WP Engine's hosting is fantastic, and provides cnames rather than just IP addresses. Dyn allows us to utilize this flexibility with cname flattening. This allows us to move accounts between our WP Engine accounts, or even to our client's accounts, without downtime.
