Overall Satisfaction with Planview Enterprise

Planview Enterprise is used for product technology work and infrastructure work within our global product technology group. It allows us to see what everyone across that group is working on, what the current batch of proposed work is, and it allows us to estimate and prioritize and determine capacity for that work.
  • Planview Enterprise lets us easily enter and manage resources in particular groups, including timesheet entry and resource planning.
  • It also allows us to easily manage projects at the level we want to manage them; for an agile organization, these are very high level!
  • Planview Enterprise also lets us combine these two items, resources and projects, into a capacity view of the combination of both.
  • The overall performance, in terms of speed and responsiveness of the system, are far less than what they should be.
  • Some basic features, like sharing a list of projects (or resources) across large groups are lacking and are cumbersome to work around.
  • Planview Enterprise has allowed us to determine what projects we can take on in certain development cycles - this is becoming more and more valuable to the business, as we need to provide a roadmap to our customers of what we will be releasing and when, with some certainty.
Planview Enterprise seems to be much better suited to a waterfall software development organization than an agile one like ours. It assumes a high level of detail in the project planning aspect, as well as a strict control over what people are working on when, and how much. Many organizations operate like that, managing the hours people are working on detailed tasks, but ours does not.
