Overall Satisfaction with Progress Sitefinity

Our organization uses Sitefinty as the CMS for the company's website. It is co-owned and supported by both IT and Marketing. The solution allows us to efficiently and easily promote content through environments (development, evaluation, production). We utilize a plug-in called SiteSync to accomplish this. It allows our Marketing department to stage content, make design changes, and edit templates prior in an isolated space (development) before promoting to the evaluation environment. There content approves, editors, and managers can review the changes, provide feedback, and approve before being promoted to Production (live). This is primary one of the reasons we chose Sitefinity - workflow management had been a problem in the past.
  • Content approval/management/workflow. Allows for content and changes to move through environments in an approval process
  • Templates - create universal templates easily and as re-usable resources throughout your project. Makes page layout management incredibly easy
  • RBAC (Role Base Access Control) - Easily manage users permissions with the admin console, at a granular level
  • Support is very much hit or miss. Example: Imagine opening a support case, communicating back and worth for days trying different solutions to resolve a problem, only to find out days later that the issue you are experiencing is a known bug that is resolved in a future release. Incredibly frustrating!
  • Pricing - Overall, the product is pricey. Add in enterprise level support and brace for the impact - the bill can be quite high.
We selected Sitefinity over WordPress because of the workflow management, and content promotion without the involvement of IT. The support model (at the time of purchase) was also appealing, however we later learned that support is not what we had hoped for. Overall, we evaluated Sitefinity to be a better enterprise solution that met the needs of our organization.
Again, I believe Sitefinity is a great tool in most scenarios. It has great RBAC (Role Base Access Controls) allowing you to apply the appropriate permissions to users at a granular level. The use of Sitesync also allowed our organization to create an approval process/workflow for approving and changing content before being promoted into production. Based on pricing, I believe the solution is more geared for enterprise or large organizations who can 1) afford the price 2) need content management vs. something like a smaller organization with a single content creator/approver.
