Overall Satisfaction with Proxmox VE
We are using Proxmox to virtualize machines that we use for development and for services offered for our clients. We cut costs and reduce deployment time by using virtual machines for ecommerce development.
Pros
- Easy to create and manage virtual machines
- Good network configuration flexbility
- Can be customized
Cons
- Some errors are hard do debug
- Lack of GUI for certain configurations
- Backup and restore are not as intuitive as they could be
- Reduced costs with cloud services
- Reduced costs with real machines
- Reduced devops work load
Proxmox is somewhat more flexible (for being a Linux distro) than VMware. VMWare's network configuration is more robust and well implemented, but it lacks lots of resources that Proxmox has, like ZFS for example. Overall I think both solutions offer good tools and the best option really depends on whats needed on any specific project.
