Overall Satisfaction with Pure Storage FlashArray

We have 3 Pure arrays that are used across the whole organization. We run a VDI environment on it and lots of SQL that benefits from the all flash array. We have an array for development, production, and DR. Using the arrays in these 3 environments ensures that we do not have to sacrifice performance.
  • Pure's dedupe algorithm allows us to save storage space considering we have several stacks running the same software.
  • The evergreen program allows us to upgrade the controllers on our arrays every 3 years so we are always current.
  • Support is amazing, they will work at fixing a problem even if it isn't on their end.
  • There is nothing that I can think of that they could do better.
  • I would like better notifications of new features.
  • We have been able to expand our storage at a great cost savings and still benefit from SSD speeds
the cost is on the high end but you get a great product.
we have great speeds from a highly utilized san. Our DBAs enjoy crazy fast database performance.
PureOne is the best feature. you can track usage, performance, and plan future upgrades.
we benefit from the speed and non disruptive upgrades. Pure will also buy back storage to save on costs.
Invest in the Pure Array, they have some of the best support I have ever dealt with and their product just works. It is so simple to manage on a day to day basis and allows you to get back to doing your normal sys admin work.
Pure blows these other arrays out of the water, there is no comparison at all. Pure is clearly the leader in this market. The other 2 arrays do not perform up to the same standards as the Pure.
  • We have been able to start using the VMAnalytics that is just recently released by Pure. THis has helped to track down issues with VMs and resolve them quickly.
VDI is a great use case for FlashArray. Users benefit from solid state drives that can help drive productivity. Placing fileservers on the array can cause the dedupe ration to drop and there is less benefit to having them on an all flasharray, we moved them off to a hybrid array.

Upgrading Pure Storage FlashArray

Yes - I have gone through several upgrades from Firmware upgrades to Controller upgrades and drive upgrades. The process is always seamless and zero downtime.
  • Increased capacity
  • Hardware performance
  • More capacity
  • new features
  • increased performance

The administration console of the Pure is rarely used. Once we have datastores built and attached to virtual hosts there is no more management needed. Also when the controllers on our M70 were upgraded to the X70 we experienced zero downtime and the techs finished in just an hour! The speed at which this is set up and ready to use is incredible. Pure performs upgrades in record time. We are in the process of expanding a couple of our arrays. To do so they are shuffling existing drives around to other trays and adding additional disks, all with no disruptions.

Using Pure Storage FlashArray

500 - We run all of our applications and databases on Pure storage. With 4 arrays in production, we are able to provide extremely fast response times to every need. For day to day management, we only have a single user (me) that manages the arrays.
1 - The flash array is by far the simpliest array to manage. Also with Pure's proactive support, they will find issues before you know there is one. The remote assist feature allows them to log in remotely and fix most issues with no user intervention.
  • Fast storage
  • Databases
  • Virtual Desktops
  • Fast restores
  • ransomware protection with snapshots
  • data migration
We are currently in talks with Pure to renew our support contracts and expand capacity on all of our arrays. These have been rocksolid storage arrays with 100% uptime for the last 2 years.

Evaluating Pure Storage FlashArray and Competitors

Yes - Pure replaced Datadomain. It was a no brainer, Datadomain was a management nightmare and extremely expensive. Pure is low maintenance, relatively low cost, and efficient.
  • Price
  • Product Usability
  • Product Reputation
  • Analyst Reports
Product Usability, it is extremely simple to use, there is not much that anyone needs to learn in order to manage the array.
I would not change it, Pure would be our first choice as being the market leader.

Quick Initial Response
We have the highest level of support. With this support we get immediate response and 3 year controller replacements for our storage arrays. We are never far behind on revisions.
Their support is very responsive and always willing to help out. I have never had to wait on hold for a support rep. We also have them do all the array upgrades, they start on time and complete in a timely manner. Their staff is very knowledgeable.
We had a controller that went unresponsive. After working at it for several hours remotely, they had me reboot the controller. Once the controller came back up, I expected the support case to be closed. Instead, support kept the case open, collected logs, escalated the findings to their development team and included a bug fix into the next firmware release.
