Overall Satisfaction with Pure Storage FlashArray
We use FlashArray to support several internal product engineering groups. This support a variety of operations such as MySQL databases, hyper-v, and VMware virtual environments. We primarily use it for the higher IOPs requirement work loads. We have also developed an in house Prometheus exporter utilizing the API. We are looking to switch to the vendor provided exporter.
- Ease of use - The general layout and order of operations is very logical, unlike a Hitachi array.
- The functionality of the API and CLI is very intuitive and easy to learn.
- Utilizing support for upgrades and repair.
- The initial configuration of the flash array is a real pain point. The need for physical presence to configure things is burdensome and slow. We would prefer to connect a serial connection and configure remotely, like an Isilon cluster.
- Ability to focus on development rather than operations.
- Set it and forget it volume configuration.
The intuitive and easy to use a combination of GUI, CLI, API kills the competition. Flat out. Just about anyone can learn how to use all three with minimal training. I've used Hitachi for years and still have to figure things out each time I use it. Isilon itself requires so much babysitting that it almost doesn't matter how cheap it is, we all hate having to fix those things constantly.
The online upgrades are a huge plus. Upgrading other systems can be burdensome or risky but not with Pure Storage.
