Overall Satisfaction with Read&Write

We use Read&Write (R&W) mainly to support students with high needs in literacy. It allows them still access the curriculum and work set out by individual teachers as they can have text read aloud to them and they can still share their ideas using speech to text as most of these students struggle with encoding and letter formation. It also allows for our less confident students to have their work read aloud via the playback feature.

Pros

  • Easy to access.
  • Captures 'regular' voice and phrasing pretty well.
  • Simple and easy to use toolbar.

Cons

  • Sometimes, the predictive text can get it quite wrong; some kind of algorithm to predict grammar/meaning, too, would be helpful.
  • Sometimes, the playback is a little too robotic and takes away from the sentence's meaning.
  • It has allowed education to be accessible to 100% of our learners
  • It supports diversity of learner needs
  • It has improved the overall confidence of our priority learners
Whenever I contact for help, I get a response in a very timely manner and it is always friendly and helpful.
It means everything. It means education for all!

Do you think Read&Write delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Read&Write's feature set?

Yes

Did Read&Write live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Read&Write go as expected?

No

Would you buy Read&Write again?

Yes

I support all the students who have learning needs. Some of our 9-10 year-olds are unable to spell basic every day words. Most of these students are able to hold a robust conversation about any topic. The confidence that they get from accessing Read&Write (R&W) to share their ideas is phenomenal. When they are heard, they feel valued. Sometimes the technology itself makes it more stressful for learners to use R&W. If there are several issues with the output of text and the student has to go back to fix it. I have seen them struggle with the mouse, positioning of curser, pushing the wrong buttons, etc, etc. And then it takes longer to edit one word than to record the entire piece of writing.
