Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
We’re using Ansible for deployments and compliance within the Systems group, primarily on the Linux platform.
Pros
- Playbooks are easy to write
- Huge community means someone has probably written a play you need
- Idempotent method makes testing low stress
- Lack of agents is magnificent
Cons
- YAML syntax can be a pain
- Lack of built-in scheduling in community edition
- Windows interaction requires some scheming
- It has sped up Linux patching dramatically.
- Deploying ‘template’ systems (think dev web servers) is a breeze.
- We can now have a more vanilla VMware template and apply all baseline measures via a play.
- Puppet Enterprise, Chef and from Progress
My experience with Puppet and Chef is limited, but as a total non-programmer Ansible was just worlds easier for me to implement.
