Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform

We use Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to help our customers solve business problems. We automate infrastructure and other business processes to ensure high quality and repeatability in addition to reducing time to delivery.

Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform provides a consistent platform that can orchestrate other tools and encourages repeatability from dev up through production.

Pros

  • Day 2 configuration management reducing drift
  • Providing access to users without much Ansible experience
  • Promoting reusability and visibility of code

Cons

  • Architecture changes are leaving it in an uncertain state
  • Move to Openshift with full support could be better
  • Better ability to move code through environments
  • Encouraging consistency from environment to environment
  • Reduction in outages on systems managed by Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
  • Pushing teams to own their own code
Overall it's good but the new architecture can be complex. Improvements can be made in the Config as Code capabilities for managing Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. Sometimes it can be difficult for those unfamiliar to understand the relationship between Projects/Credentials/Job Templates, etc.
I used puppet prior to moving to open source Ansible and eventually to Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. I appreciate the agentless approach of Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform and feel that its deterministic approach to applying code is superior to puppet

Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform is well suited for day 2 operations. It allows management of hosts after initial deployment in a way that is repeatable. I like to say the 2 I's are the most important thing about Ansible - Idempotency and Inventory. These are the strengths and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform makes those things possible at the Enterprise level.

Cost is the biggest area that it is not appropriate. Licensing can be very expensive and may limit some of the use cases.
