Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

main operating system for our development environment. Our main problem currently is the fact we are on an air gapped network and it is complicated to find resources and solutions for our problems. Our goal is to eventually expand all of the development environments we are on to be RHEL9.

Pros

  • File location control
  • security
  • command line interface

Cons

  • air gapped networks
  • air gapped solutions
  • switching major OS upgrades breaks a lot of things
  • Major updates on air gapped systems have caused issue in the past
Syntax is relatively hard or foreign to others. The overall aspect of the system is a learning curve coming from windows.
I think RHEL excels in keeping the OS up to date vs the others.

Do you think Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) delivers good value for the price?

Yes

Are you happy with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)'s feature set?

Yes

Did Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) go as expected?

No

Would you buy Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) again?

Yes

Red Hat to me, once you learn it is very simplistic and easy to use. It provides many capabilities that we look for versus windows OS. We love the command line interface and the ability to store everything in a file structure. A negative for us if definitely the learning curve it takes to learn RHEL.
