Overall Satisfaction with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)

We use Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) extensively for development and infrastructure.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) is specified by our customer. To say we use it a wicked lot would be an understatement.

Pros

  • Auditing and compliance
  • Ansible! Scales deployment and administration really well.
  • It ain't the other awful OS
  • Anything that relies on pretty pictures for the user sucks. love the CLI
  • excellent man pages
  • easy to implement SCAP compliance
  • Patching is awesome

Cons

  • packing repos for air-gap environments to facilitate patching
  • patch digests specifying only security-related updates
  • Seamless replacement for obsolescent UNIX variants.
  • Porting from UNIX to Linux is fairly straight forward.
I am a UNIX/Linux SA.. going from Unix to Linux was easy-peasy
